Brighton, Colorado is a freestanding city northeast of Metro Denver, on the banks of the South Platte River. Brighton is the county seat of Adams County. Part of Brighton is also in Weld County. Nearby communities include Ft. Lupton, Henderson, Northglenn, and Thornton.
Brighton was founded in the 1870's as a small farming community that grew up around a stage and railroad depot. It was originally named Hughes Station. The city was incorporated in 1887.
Brighton was named after Brighton Beach, New York. The city motto is “What we value today is what we become tomorrow.”
